Open call for pilot projects
Hub4Food offers to food SMEs in Atlantic Area regions the possibility to participate in pilot projects in collaboration with Hub4Food Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs).
These pilot projects can allow the implementation of feasibility studies, exploitation and demonstration activities, in order to test different technologies applicable to relevant needs of food industry companies.
This call for proposals aims to receive applications from SMEs interested to participate in a pilot project.
A total of 12 pilot projects are expected to be selected under this call.
What will pilot projects look like?

- Pilot projects are collaborative projects to be implemented between a food SME located in an Atlantic Area region and a Hub4Food RTO.
- They address at least one of the Hub4food target food subsectors:
- Primary target subsectors: bakery and pastry, marine and seafood products, meat products, milk and dairy products.
- Secondary target subsectors: Prepared consumer foods, fruits & vegetables, beverages, olive oil.
- Pilot projects should aim to use or explore marine resources as a source for ingredients or products.
- Pilot projects can address different topics and technologies, such as:
- New strategies to extend the short shelf life of seafood
- Innovative food formulations with functional properties
- Marine biorefineries
- Innovative marine-based products with higher added value, for improved use of undervalued fish and by-products from the fisheries and aquaculture
- Advanced image processing case studies
- Production of Fish Protein Hydrolysates (FPH)
- Extraction of hydrocolloids from seaweeds
- High pressure technology application
- Healthy validation of food products
- Pilot projects are at TRL6 (Technology Readiness Level) or higher.
- Pilot projects are estimated to have a duration of around 8 months.
